The Office of the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner seeks to minimize the possibility of conflicts between public and private interests through its administration of the Conflict of Interest Code for Members of the House of Commons and the Conflict of Interest Act for public office holders. It educates regulatees about their obligations under these regimes, gives them independent, rigorous and consistent direction and advice, conducts investigations and makes use of appropriate sanctions where necessary to ensure full compliance with the regimes. The Commissioner is an officer of the House of Commons and the Office is independent of the core federal public administration. It has about 50 employees.
